Food Update

It's a bit of a hassle to try new foods, because you have to try them for a few days in a row to make sure there isn't an allergic reaction. And until you know, you can't add in other new foods. A few days ago, Megan tried applesauce. Liked it. Tonight, she tried oat cereal. LOVED it. Since she didn't like carrots, it looks like we'll be eating applesauce and oat cereal for a couple of days before we can move on to something else. I'll be patient, though. Soon we'll have a whole bunch of things she can eat!

In other news, we visited the ear doctor today for a followup. Looks like tubes might be coming soon. We're going to talk after the next ear infection. Hopefully that won't happen for a while...

And in happier news, Megan has officially moved into 9-month clothes (which are for babies 6-9 months). Fun!

The six-month checkup

Megan had her six-month checkup today. Weight was 16 lbs., 1 oz., although after her checkup I changed her diaper and weighed it and it was very full--6 oz.! So, I suspect she's just under 16 lbs. (I'm not sure when the diaper got full--before or after the weigh-in. The diaper didn't feel super-heavy at first.) In any case, she's the 51st percentile for weight. Height is 26 3/4 inches--89th percentile. So, she looks like a mini basketball player. :-) Head circumference is 16 1/2 "---47th percentile. In other develpmental areas, she seems to be right where she should be.

Megan tried carrots and hated them. So, we'll save them for another try. She still likes rice cereal (as you can see from the picture above), and I think we'll go for another veggie tomorrow.

Six Months and lots of milestones!

Megan turned six months old on August 2. Unfortunately, she celebrated with a visit to the pediatric urgent care (pretty cool that there is one, eh?) because she had another ear infection. Oy. She's on the mend now, but she looks so blah in this picture.

Hopefully she'll be perkier next month! In other news, Megan sat up by herself this week. Fun! She also tried solid food for the first time--rice cereal. If she could have, she would have dived face-first into the bowl. She loved it.It's a good thing, too, because my milk supply took a huge plunge and I made the decision to stop breatfeeding. I've gotten great emotional support from my pediatrician and many of my friends. It's amazing, though, how sad it is to give up breastfeeding. It's funny--I hated it so much at the beginning and loved it so much later on. I know I am doing the right thing, but I'm a little bummed out. I feel much better than I did yesterday, though--so I'm feeling much more positive about things. The bottom line is that I'm doing right by Megan--and that's all that matters! And I have lots of memories to keep my heart warm. And they sure do!!!!!!!

No tubes--but Megan can nibble her toes!

We went to the ear doctor today to have him check Megan out. Things went well--he doesn't want to go the tube route at this point because she seems to be healing well and there's no fluid in her ears. So far, so good. It was a good visit, though--I really like this doctor.

On another note, Megan can stick her foot in her mouth. What skills! If this softball thing doesn't work out, there's always gymnastics!

25 Weeks...And My Desert Island CD List (So Far)!

Megan turned 25 weeks old yesterday!

No ear infection this week *knock wood*, but we are going to a ear-nose-throat doctor on Monday anyway to check Megan out, since she’s had three ear infections since just after Thanksgiving.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in the car commuting, and I’ve been compiling my “desert island CD list”—the list of CDs I’d bring with me if I knew I was going to be stranded on a desert island—and greatest hits CDs aren’t allowed. Here are my top 20 (today, anyway!):

Purple Rain, Prince and the Revolution
Parade, Prince and the Revolution
Rumours, Fleetwood Mac
Say You Will, Fleetwood Mac
The Joshua Tree, U2
Notorious, Duran Duran
Wildflowers, Tom Petty
Zenyatta Mondatta, The Police
Barry Manilow Live, Barry Manilow
Blue, Joni Mitchell
Human Racing, Nik Kershaw
Frontiers, Journey
Indigo Girls, Indigo Girls
Thriller, Michael Jackson
Tapestry, Carole King
Aja, Steely Dan
Moondance, Van Morrison
Boys in the Trees, Carly Simon
Amadeus, Soundtrack
Saturday Night Fever, Soundtrack

Anyone want to add their favorites?

24 Weeks Old!

Megan turned 24 weeks old today. Her big accomp-
lishment this week was holding her own bottle at daycare!
Megan has a special relation-
ship with her daddy. Tonight I was feeding her, and P.C. was talking, and Megan kept turning her head to look at him while he spoke--and she was very smiley. Very sweet!
